The Little Differences That Make the Big Difference

Jonathan Montessori is a Montessori-based preschool and Kindergarten for Children age 2 years 9 months to 6 years.  We pride ourselves on providing a truly authentic Montessori education. The Montessori method is a teaching philosophy and system that has been in use for over 100 years. It features:

  • Jonathan Montessori Preschool Materials

Mixed-age communities that foster cooperation and collaboration among the children while allowing for individualized choices
  • A unique classroom and lesson design that allows children to choose their own work while still ensuring that they have a well-rounded education
  • Emphasis on empowering the child. Montessori children learn the self-confidence that comes from making their own choices and handling their own mistakes
  • International, cross-cultural materials that are beautiful and immediately engaging
  • Specially-designed lessons and equipment that teach multiple concepts at once, allowing children to learn in an organic, connected way
  • Daily open outdoor activity with plants and dirt, not just a sterile playground

We also take great pride in maintaining the highest standards

  • All teachers have their AMI or AMS certification, along with their teaching degree
  • Assistants are also highly trained, most with degrees of their own
  • We work with parents as our partners and plan individualized lessons to help your child become the best he or she can be.
  • We are situated on a safe and serene wooded site, with access to many trails and parks
  • We foster lifelong learning where children become joyful members of the global community - ready to contribute to the development of a better, more peaceful world

The child at Jonathan Montessori may enter the program at various times throughout the school year. Each child begins gradually, allowing them to develop a relationship with the staff, acquire new friendships and become comfortable in their new environment. Parents are encouraged to observe and learn about our program, visit with our staff and establish trust as they enroll their child.

Practical Life

This spectrum of activities - which includes food preparation, gardening, dressing skills and caring for the classroom environment - integrates the child into the community and fosters a sense of independence at the same time.

Sensorial

The children use their senses to explore the physical properties of our world, such as color, shape and size. Activities include matching bell sounds, comparing textures, colors and temperatures, and constructing geometric figures.

Language

The children learn sounds, letters, and play language games. Later they will begin to write stories phonetically and then to read words, sentences and books.

Mathematics

Children explore large mathematical concepts with beautiful, concrete visual aids. Math is fun as children play games with the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Cultural

Music from around the world, art activities, picture books and puzzle maps open doors for the child into the worlds of plants and animals, as well as the diversity of human community.
